Orphaned by the fire, Ruby welcomes heartbroken sixteen-year-old Anna Cassidy, into her home and family but circumstances conspire against them and she is unable to save Anna’s twelve-year-old brother Sam Cassidy, who is sent by the Church to Canada as a Homeboy.

I loved this story ever so much and the characters too.

Anna has a hard life with her siblings and is trying to just live day by day.
A fire takes away her mother and most of her siblings.
Anna and her brother Sam are the ones who live because they were not at home. Anna is sick and her borther is sent to Canada.
She is helped by a rich woman and life gets better.

This is a story of second chances. It is a lovely saga for fans of historical fiction.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
